My Educational Journey
Education has been a passion of mine for well over a decade. While pursuing my undergraduate degree in Mathematics, I worked as a tutor for students struggling in Calculus, College Algebra, and Business Math. It was here that I discovered my aptitude and passion for helping struggling students. Since obtaining my degree and teacher’s certification, I have worked diligently to help students in a variety of capacities. Over the last few years, however, I have focused my efforts on special education.
The struggles of my daughter, in her pursuit of reading fluency, inspired me to focus my energy on special education. My daughter, who is a student with dyslexia, struggled mightily to learn how to read. During this period, she had great teachers that helped her crack the code of fluency, but I realized that one of the most important steps in her journey to literacy was her initial evaluation. Without this first step, my daughter would not have achieved the success that she has. I want to help other students obtain the help they need and deserve.
For the past two years, I have worked closely with my instructors at Sul Ross and the diagnosticians at my school. These dedicated professionals have allowed me to learn at their side and bear witness to the amazing difference that an educational diagnostician can make in the lives of students and their families. Beginning this Summer, I will begin my career as a diagnostician, and I look forward immensely to positively affecting the lives of students and helping them obtain the resources they need to succeed.
